Types of PTE tests

PTE Academic tests & UK government tests are the two main types of PTE tests, which are further subdivided into other tests.

  1. PTE Academic – PTE Academic is further subdivided into 2 categories.
    • PTE Academic -This is a computer-based 2-hour test that tests an individual’s speaking, listening, reading & writing skills accepted worldwide for study, migration, and work visas.
    • PTE Academic Online – This is an online version of PTE Academic that can be taken at home, office, or any other place of convenience. It has the same questions, format, scoring, and test content as the PTE Academic test. However, this test is not accepted for visa applications. It should be preferred in cases where there is an issue accessing a local test center and the goal is not to apply for a visa.
  2. UK Government tests – 4 sub-categories of the UK Government tests are-
    • PTE Academic UKVI – This is a computer-based test of 2 hours which is accepted for study and work visas. 99% of colleges and universities in the UK accept this test for admissions.
    • PTE Home A1 – This is a computer-based test of 22 minutes which has 32 questions. There are 3 question types repeat sentence, describe image & conversation: listen & answer. The result of this test is either a pass or a fail. The UK home office accepts this visa for different family and work visas.
    • PTE Home A2 – This is a computer-based test of 25 minutes which has 30 to 33 questions. There are 3 question types repeat sentence, describe image & re-tell story. This test is useful for people who want to extend a PTE Home A1 visa.
    • PTE Home B1 – This is a computer-based test of 22 minutes which has 32 questions. There are 4 question types repeat sentence, describe image, re-tell story & story: listen & answer. The UK Government has authorized this test for settlement (live indefinitely) and citizenship application.
